What is it about?
This is a case report of a young man who became paralyzed from abscesses within the thoracic spinal cord due to yeast. Invasive infections due to the yeast Candida usually are only seen in patients who are immunocompromised.

Why is it important?
Doctors need to remember that fungal infections of the spinal cord can occur even in patients who have NOT received injections of contaminated steroids, such as the large cluster associated with injectable steroids from NECC, the New England Compounding Center.
Perspectives
Many journal editors seems to think that publishing Case Reports constitutes an invasion of the patient's privacy. In this case not only did the patient give written, informed consent, but he frequently asked me how I was coming along in the preparation of the Case Report. I have the patient to thank for making me get over my procrastination and actually write up the the case and submit it.
