What is it about?
This is a case report of a young man who became paralyzed from abscesses within the thoracic spinal cord due to yeast. Invasive infections due to the yeast Candida usually are only seen in patients who are immunocompromised.

Why is it important?
Doctors need to remember that fungal infections of the spinal cord can occur even in patients who have NOT received injections of contaminated steroids, such as the large cluster associated with injectable steroids from NECC, the New England Compounding Center.
