Why is it important?
Why it is important? The current global landscape in health and social care is challenging, demanding innovative and effective actions from policy makers and service providers. Shortages of health care professionals and a growing ageing population place enormous pressures onto the health and social care systems of many countries. Artificial intelligence and Socially Assistive Humanoid Robots constitute an important opportunity towards meeting some of the care needs of older adults. This overview can help in understanding the issues in the practical use of Socially Assistive Humanoid Robots in health and social care settings catering for the needs of older adults. We have found factors hindering and facilitating the introduction of this technology in adults' care and offer suggestions to address some of the issues identified.
