What is it about?
The host protease TMPRSS2 activates the spike protein of highly pathogenic MERS and SARS coronaviruses. Our results using animal models demonstrated that TMPRSS2 plays a crucial role for the pathology of the lethal respiratory infectious diseases, MERS and SARS. The results facilitate development of novel therapeutic approaches for MERS and SARS.
