What is it about?
Mycobacteria although an obligate aerobic bacteria can sustain various stress conditions which makes it resistant and persistent against an array of antimicrobial agents. The complex biology of mycobacterial species blocks the theory of designing drugs against them. This study adds an angle which can exploited for drug designing. A phenomenon of thymine less death (TLD) was shown which is overcome in the presence of DinB2, a Y family DNA polymerase.

Why is it important?
Depletion of any one of the four nucleotide pool can be detrimental to mycobacterial survival. This study establish the role of a Y family DNA polymerase under such conditions which may function otherwise.
