What is it about?
The complete genome sequence has been determined for the type strain of the bacterium Xanthomonas translucens pathovar translucens. This is a pathogen of cereals, in particular barley. Obtaining the complete genome sequence was not easy and required to combine PacBio and Illumina methods.

Why is it important?
Availability of genome data will facilitate functional research for this bacterium. In addition, the data support a deeper understanding of the evolution of the genus Xanthomonas. Likewise, the data is useful to breed barley cultivars that are more resistant to bacterial infections, which cause substantial losses in warm and humid climates.
