What is it about?
Describes the cell based assay of 2 replicon cell lines: Hepatitis C virus and BVDV using read-outs consisting of a FRET protease assay (HCV) and a luciferase reporter (BVDV) assay. A 3rd assay employing Alamar Blue (fluorescent blue indicator dye called resazurin) is used prior to these assays as a indicator of cellular toxicity.

Why is it important?
The ability to get as much information as possible from a single well greatly enhances the ability to follow small molecule inhibitors with the properties that are desired: specific and non-toxic.
