What is it about?
Avibactam is a novel drug that is able to block the action of some enzymes (called beta-lactamases) produced by some pathogenic bacteria that are difficult to fight back becuse of their resistance to many antibiotics. Some of these enzymes are produced by bugs all around the world, and some others (like the one studied here) are more important (prevalent) in only a few countries.
