What is it about?
Muscle damage has effects on exercise performance and may result from impacts and collisions in contact-sport. We have examined the cause of that damage and the effects it may have on a variety of parameters as well as commonly used strategies which might improve recovery.

Why is it important?
We highlight the current lack of research in impact induced muscle damage and present a number of potential areas of investigation which warrant further exploration. This may be of interest to researchers and practitioners who are invested in promoting recovery and adaptation of athletes.
