Why is it important?

It was found that restaurants in Singapore had a higher noise level than those in Macao SAR and Hong Kong SAR. Additionally, service noise negatively affected sonic environment and diners' subjective responses. Nevertheless, service employees' behavior, foods and beverage, and diners' subjective responses to restaurant noise affected dinners' overall satisfaction and word of mouth communication.

Perspectives

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants are much quieter these days. It is because people practice social distancing and wear masks before and right after eating. Additionally, it is expected that restaurant sonic environments may change permanently due to changes in diners' behaviors.
