What is it about?
Crowdsourcing is one of the common approaches in collecting sonic and human perception information for studying restaurant soundscape. However, it is not easy to motivate people to participate in massive data collection. This paper presents our efforts to engage people through some social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. in restaurant soundscape survey.

Why is it important?
We created and broadcast interesting and insightful blogs and a short informative video on restaurant soundscape. Yet, the response was lukewarm and we only collected 125 sets of responses from diners. The data showed that most respondents dined with others and had slightly positive perception towards sonic environment in restaurants. A path analysis showed customer satisfaction moderately significantly depended on service employees’ behaviors, followed by sonic environment, and food and beverage. Nevertheless, we believe that using personal social media such as WeChat and WhatsApp may help better engage people in this type of crowdsourcing activity.
