What is it about?

Mass attenuation coefficient is measured after standardization of the x-ray spectrometer system consists of NaI(Tl) detector and computer controller MCA. This experiment explains the dependence of mass attenuation coefficient with respect to atomic number of the absorber.

Why is it important?

This experiment is performed to show the effect of edge on the mass attenuation coefficient by varying the atomic number of the absorber and keeping energy constant.

Perspectives

A simple experimental arrangment consisting of NaI(Tl) x-ray spectrometer system along with MCA which is low cost experiment explain the feeling about the K edge with respect to the atomic number of the element.
