What is it about?

The operation of the optoelectronic generator (OEO) is analyzed, when presenting it as a correlator of random variables. The modulation modes of laser studies from one side and with carrier suppression are considered. It is shown that the spectral power density of phase noise power of OEO depends on the laser phase noise, laser coherence time, choice of modulation mode, level of DC component suppression, degree of alignment of lateral optical harmonics during modulation, equality of excitation coefficients of optical channels of the Mach-Zehnder modulator, geometric length of the optical fiber and optical power.

The developed statistical theory of OEO made it possible to substantiate new methods for reducing the PSD of phase noise.The developed statistical theory of OEO made it possible to substantiate new methods for reducing the PSD of phase noise. One of the methods is the suppression of the optical center frequency.

Perspectives

The use of the reduction methods studied in the article in the optoelectronic generator makes it possible to make OEO a low-noise and compact RF generator.
