What is it about?

Numerically studies the effect of different blade tip surface roughness on axial compressor performance at various tip clearances. The blade tip surface roughness help increase blade loading and reduce the tip leakage vortex strength. The tip leakage trajectory shifts towards the suction surface of the blade and improve the stall margin of the compressor.

Why is it important?

This method increases the stall margin of the compressor. This leads to a reduction in the amount of fuel consumed which may reduce the trip cost. It also increases the compressor performance by reducing the tip leakage losses.

Perspectives

The proposed method increases the stall margin and pressure rise across the compressor. The effect was more pronounced at higher tip clearance.
