What is it about?

This article explore the effect of sediment bed thickness on the minimum/critical shear stress of flow that start to move the sediment particle. We have shown that there is a logarithmic relationship between the bed thickness and the minimum velocity.

Why is it important?

We develop an equation that take into account the sediment bed thickness on minimum/critical shear stress. This equation can be used for design of sewer/ drain that have the ability to have self-cleansing properties to reduce sediment build up that need frequent cleaning.

Perspectives

This article is a twin manuscript of our other publication on the effect of deposition thickness on the minimum/critical velocity.
