What is it about?

Leprosy caused by the fungus Phlyctema vagabunda is an important disease of olive fruit. In this paper we identified the pathogen by phenotypic and molecular methods and we demonstrated the importance of leaf and stem infections besides fruit infection, which it is the best known aspect of this disease.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that leaf and stem infections are important parts of the olive leprosy and they should be considered to develop new strategies for the management of this disease.

Perspectives

This article has taught me that a disease is not immutable and that it can change completely depending on small changes in crop management.
