What is it about?
Plants have a number of direct defences that can act negatively on herbivores, including chemical barriers, the secondary metabolites such as benzoxazinoids compounds in maize plants. The results showed that the levels of benzoxazinoids vary among the Neotropical maize genotypes and S. frugiperda is able to cope with secondary metabolite-based defence in Neotropical maize.
