What is it about?

Longitudinal urinary metabolomics analysis in this study identifies four metabolites significantly associated with early childhood asthma. Identified asthma-associated metabolites are shown in blue color. Among them, 1-methylnicotinamide, a primary metabolite of nicotinamide, is reported to be protective against asthma exacerbations through anti-inflammatory effects. Another three metabolites are originated from choline and purine metabolisms. Guanidoacetic acid is a natural precursor of creatine which has been reported to activate airway epithelium in asthma. Most importantly, dimethylamine (DMA) and allantoin are responsible for gut microbial metabolism in diverse environments.
