What is it about?
This meta-analysis examined the predictability of child weight status on executive function and vice versa. The study included 18 longitudinal studies with a total of 30,101 subjects. The main findings of this meta-analysis suggest that there is a bidirectional prediction between weight status and executive function in children and adolescents. Poorer executive function was associated with greater weight status in the future, and increased weight was associated with poorer executive function in later life. These predictabilities are low but potentially beneficial for implementation in childcare systems.
