What is it about?
Nurses who serve on governing boards help shape organizational direction and outcomes. This scoping review describes the direction of research about nurses who serve on governing boards from 2016 to 2022 and makes recommendations for practice and research.

Why is it important?
Research studies about nurses on boards mostly focus on board composition. Until research evidence demonstrates nurses' contributions to board effectiveness and organizational performance, it is unlikely that nurses will be ubiquitously appointed to boards of directors.
