What is it about?
The developmental basis of complete cleistogamy—the production of only closed self-pollinating flowers—remains unexplored, despite longstanding speculation since Darwin. Using floral developmental transcriptomic analysis, we have shown that convergent expression changes might have contributed to the evolution of complete cleistogamy in the achlorophyllous orchid genus, Gastrodia.
