Evolutionary history of mycorrhizal associations between Japanese Oxygyne (Thismiaceae) species and Glomeraceae fungi

What is it about?

The genus Oxygyne (Thismiaceae) hosts some of the rarest heterotrophic plants in the world, with remarkable geographic distributions among angiosperms. Based on high-throughput DNA sequencing, we have shown that each Oxygyne species is predominantly associated with a narrow clade of Glomeraceae, while phylogenetically distantly related Oxygyne species interact with different fungi.
