What is it about?
Blue stain fungi are parasites and saprotrophs that infect living woods colonised by bark beetles as well as by other insects. The 84-million-year-old South African fossils we studied are the first documented occurrence of blue stain fungi in the geological record. The fungus colonized the wood of an extinct conifer.
