Cell size influences inorganic carbon acquisition in artificially selected phytoplankton

What is it about?

Classic theories predict smaller cells to have an advantage when assimilating carbon because of a greater surface to volume quotient. By evolving cells to different sizes, we show that larger cells can use active carbon uptake to overcome their inadequate diffusion supply.
