What is it about?
Single cell microalgae called diatoms are among the most photosynthetically productive organisms on Earth. We could show for the first time that light-matter interactions of photonic crystal structures in the silicate cell wall of the centric diatom Coscinodiscus granii can facilitate efficient photosynthesis.
