What is it about?
Tree mortality rates are increasing in moist tropical forests, with large consequences on the global carbon cycle. The processes driving increasing mortality all appear to be increasing in frequency, and are expected to continue to increase under future environmental change. Better prediction of tropical forest mortality can be achieved through improved observation, experimentation, and simulation focused on testing the processes and mechanisms leading to changing mortality rates of trees in moist tropical forests.
