Why is it important?

Probiotics may help to prevent infections in the elderly, helping to reduce costs and avoiding antibiotics prescriptions.

Perspectives

This is a study protocol of a Systematic review (SR). When concluded, this study may help to understand the role of probiotics in infection prevention in the aged. Probiotics are known to prevent infections in the childhood. However, clinical trials are controversial about their role in the elderly. This SR will help to find answers about its effectiveness.
