What is it about?
Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory infectious disease of the gum that results in tooth loss and increases the risk of other systemic diseases. The interaction between neutrophils, a white blood cell, and oral pathogens is a key determinant of disease progression. In this study we characterize how an emerging oral pathogen manipulates neutrophil life span contributing to the chronicity of the disease.
