What is it about?
ComEC is an essential protein for the uptake of DNA during transformation, a process that allows genetic material to move from the environment into the chromosome of a recipient cell. comEB, the gene immediately upstream from comEC must be transcribed into messenger RNA to enable the transcription of comEC, although the ComEB protein itself is dispensable for transformation.
