What is it about?
The mexAB-oprM operon coding for a multidrug efflux pump confers the opportunistic human pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 with resistance to antibiotics. The genes can be induced via exposure to antibiotics or by intrinsic signals. We identified that the bacterium uses self-produced H2S as an intrinsic inducer to turn on the expression of the operon via polysulfide.
