What is it about?
Despite its clinical importance (multi-drug resistance and high mortality rate), the factors contributing to the pathogenesis of Acinetobacter baumannii are not well characterized. Herein, we characterized the contribution of the UDP-N-acetyl-D-galactosaminuronic acid (UDP-GalNAcA) biosynthesis genes tviBC in the pathobiology of A. baumannii. We showed that in addition to their importance for capsule production, gna-gne2 are also required to maintain the cell envelope integrity, influence antibiotic resistance, and are essential during bloodstream infection.
