The pathogenic actinobacterium Rhodococcus equi : What's in a name?

What is it about?

We review current advances in the genomics, biology and virulence of Rhodococcus equi, an emerging model to understand actimobacterial pathogenesis and bacterial host tropism. Lingering problems regarding the taxonomy of this organism are also discussed. We request the conservation of its more aptly descriptive original name R. equi rather than the recently proposed Rhodococcus hoagii.
