What is it about?
The adenylate cyclase (AC) CyaC of Sinorhizobium meliloti is class III adenylate cyclases with a hexahelical membrane anchor that binds two heme-B molecules. The heme-B is oxidized or reduced by membraneous quinones, and the redox reaction affects cyclase activity. We conclude that CyaC-like membrane anchors of bacterial ACs can serve as the input site for chemical stimuli which are then translated by the AC into an intracellular second messenger response.
