What is it about?
The carrier state is an alternative bacteriophage life cycle by which virulent bacteriophage can persist in association with host bacteria. Carrier state strains of the foodborne pathogen Campylobacter jejuni contain a T368A substitution in the binding domain of FlhF GTPase that reduces cell motility but resists bacteriophage lysis. This allows host bacteria and bacteriophage to coexist and survive outside the gut of host animals.
