What is it about?
Many of our most important antibiotics target synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, which is comprised largely of peptidoglycan. Peptidoglycan synthesis relies on intermediates derived from central metabolism. As a result, chemical or genetic factors that alter metabolism may affect the availability of key precursors, and thereby affect antibiotic sensitivity.
