What is it about?
Bacillus subtilis responds to phosphate limitation by inducing enzymes that scavenge for phosphate and by reducing the level of phosphate-containing anionic polymers in the cell wall. We show that the chemical composition and metabolism of anionic polymers influences the induction and maintenance of this response in different subspecies of B. subtilis.
