What is it about?

This article aimed to compare two screening questionnaires of sleep apnea in children to the standard diagnostic method (overnight sleep study). The IF-SLEEPY questionnaire performed better than the 6-item questionnaire in identifying children at high risk of sleep apnea. The IF-SLEEPY questionnaire is simple and easy to score.

Why is it important?

Sleep studies are expensive. sleep apnea has significant medical, mental, and behavioral consequences. Therefore, it is essential to find a simple screening tool to identify children at high risk of sleep apnea and prioritize the referrals for sleep studies.

Perspectives

OSA has significant adverse physical, mental and academic outcomes in children. Treatment of OSA improves the outcome. This work is important as it helps physicians in primary care settings to identify children at risk of OSA.
