What is it about?
The use of ePTFE suture as substitute for native chordae is an important milestone in the repair of degenerative mitral regurgitation. Recently new minimally invasive approach to mitral repair have introducing the need to use artificial chordae of different length. Indeed it is dominant the idea that the diameter, not the length of artificial chordae, was important in determining mechanical properties of the materials. In our study we have evidenced that this is not. The length affects widely the mechanical properties of artificial chordae.

Why is it important?
the mechanical behavior of ePTFE suture suggests the use of ePTFE as artificial chordae take into account the length of artificial chordae when considering the site of insertion.
