What is it about?

Rooftops are underutilized spaces in most cities where they can be used for different purposes. We propose to use these spaces for growing vegetables, harvesting rainwater and/or producing energy through solar panels. We have analyzed the technical feasibility and environmental implications of the implementation of these systems.

Why is it important?

Our findings show that it is possible to implement new strategies in cities from a more comprehensive perspective. The use of roofs to provide food, energy and rainwater would cut the dependence on external resources and reduce CO2 emissions considerably.

Perspectives

I hope this article makes people think about the possibilities we have in our cities to improve their environmental performance and to transform them into healthier, greener and more self-sufficient places to live.
