What is it about?
A dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is a promising next-generation photovoltaic device. Fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) is known to be a typical transparent conductive oxide (TCO) film for a DSSC. However, in this study, niobium doped titanium oxide (TNO) was employed for a novel TCO film to construct a TiO2/TNO homojunction in the cell.

Why is it important?
This work is not merely a report of replacing FTO transparent conductive film by TNO in a DSSC. The basic concept in this work is to introduce a merit of a homojunction into a DSSC such as in silicon devices, and investigate a behavior of photoelectrons at TiO2/TNO interface as well as at the bulk of the cell.
