What is it about?

Patients with maxillary molar or premolar edentulism were selected for the study. Osteotome assisted surgery for implant site preparation was performed with an electrical mallet in test group, while a hand mallet was used for control group. A total of 50 dental implants were placed in 36 patients. Intra-oral x-rays for marginal bone evaluation over time were set at 6, 12, 24 months

Why is it important?

No statistically significant differences were found in test and control groups. A significant increase in bone height between 6 and 12 months and a stable bone levels at 24 months occurred in both groups

Perspectives

According to our study, I feel to recommend the use of electrical mallet in case osteotome assisted bone condensing in needed for dental implant placement in posterior edentulous maxilla
