Why is it important?

The authors agree on one thing: the need for diplomatic studies serving as a two-way conduit between practitioners and scholars, alerting the former to the best in IR scholarship while reminding the latter that explanations and understandings of international relations from which diplomacy and diplomats are absent can never be complete.

Perspectives

It is fascinating to see how, since the publication of this article, diplomatic studies has attracted the attention of a growing number of scholars, notably early career scholars and non-western academics.
