Why is it important?

This study highlights the important relationship between new habits formed and changes adopted from participation in a commercially available digital weight management program and participants’ health and well-being outcomes, including weight loss following program participation.

Perspectives

An individual’s dietary and physical activity behaviour is influenced by a complex set of interrelated factors, including individual, social and environmental factors. As such, the success of weight loss programs is dependent upon the ability to effectively understand and then influence and modify these factors. Rothschild’s (1999) motivation, opportunity, and ability (MOA) framework provides a useful perspective for examining the multi-factorial nature of dietary and physical activity behaviour, and when analysed, offer actionable insights for improving the design of future weight management programs.
