What is it about?
We analyzed the levels and distribution of Al, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the groundwater samples collected in the vicinity of a large-scale gold mine in Tanzania.

Why is it important?
In many rural areas of sub-Saharan Africa, groundwater accounts as a major source of water. However, issues related to groundwater pollution are under-researched. Minimum information exist about the influence of large-scale mining on groundwater sources. This work aimed at contributing to knowledge in this area.
