What is it about?
The Polyurethane foam layer in district heating pipes acts both as insulation and as a load-bearing element, bonding the medium pipe and the casing and transferring the shear stresses between the layers. Therefore, its integrity is critical for the correct functioning of the system. In this paper we evaluate how thermal and mechanical cyclic loads affect the strength of the foam, as well as it´s fracture pattern.
