Why is it important?
Coral reef fisheries support 6 million fishers across nearly 100 countries and are vital for the nutrition of many coastal communities. But, many fisheries are currently overfished and the ability to effectively manage these fisheries is limited by i) a poor understanding of the best ways to monitor fishing impacts on coral reefs and ii) how to define ‘desirable’ reef and fish community characteristics. We identify indicators that reef managers might monitor to best record fishing impacts on coral reefs.
