What is it about?
The Italian Renaissance economy is often seen as a period of crisis within the European Late Medieval crisis. The article provides a macroeconomic approach at the age of the Renaissance as an age of expansion and relative high standard of living.

Why is it important?
Our findings are that relatively high standars of living in 1350-1550 Italy were a precondition, although not the cause, of the flowering in culture and art prior to the decline since the early modern age and for a long epoch of the Italian economy.
