What is it about?

The determination of rivaroxaban and apixaban from serum samples of patients may be beneficial in specific clinical situations when additional blood sampling for plasma and thus the determination of factor Xa activity is not feasible or results are not plausible.

Why is it important?

To get an alternative source to plasma samples for determination of Rivaroxaban and Apixaban such as serum. Serum is taken routinely from patients and is stored generally for a couple of days at 4° Celsius. Concentration of Rivaroxaban and Apixaban may be determined a couple of days after blood sampling in contrast to plasma samples.

Perspectives

Rivaroxaban and Apixaban concentrations can be determined specifically from serum samples.
