What is it about?

Medical cannabis is not yet approved in France. From a sample of French general practitioners, we highlighted that fears and beliefs regarding medical cannabis were strong predictors of willingness to prescribe it in the future. Interestingly, they had more importance than knowledge about cannabinoids.

Why is it important?

It is the first time that French general practitioners' willingness to prescribe medical cannabis is studied. Our findings suggest that the social and legal context (i.e. cannabis criminalization) may impair patients' access to medical cannabis.

Perspectives

I hope that such results highlight the need to put patients' needs at the centre of care decisions.
