What is it about?
Vesicouterine is an uncommon abnormal passage between the uterus and bladder, and patients may present with cyclical hematuria, menouria, amenorrhea, and/or urinary incontinence. This condition is normally confirmed through filling the bladder with dye or through cystoscopy. Our publication presents a case which was diagnosed solely through immunohistochemical analysis. Although preliminary hematoxylin-eosin stains of urine exfoliated cells seemed to suggest bladder malignancy, this was subsequently excluded through expression of normal endometrial gland and stroma cells.

Why is it important?
Our publication is the first to report diagnosis of vesicouterine fistula through immunohistochemical analysis. Normally more invasive tests are used to diagnosis this issue, including blue methylene dye test and cystoscopy.
