What is it about?
Arterial stiffness is one of the early signs of cardiovascular disease and arterial stiffening has been observed already in children. A recent study suggest that easy-to-use non-invasive method can produce reproducible estimates of arterial stiffness in adolescents aged 16–19 years regardless of cardiorespiratory fitness and obesity. However, Augmentation index that reflects peripheral arterial tone exhibited poorer reproducibility especially youth with higher levels of fitness and lower levels of body fat.

Why is it important?
Arterial stiffness is one of the early signs of cardiovascular disease and arterial stiffening has been observed already in children. The results of our study are promising as most devises used to assess arterial stiffness require highly skilled assessors. Especially our findings on the good reproducibility of arterial stiffness may provide new possibilities not only in research setting but also in standard health care.
